The anatomy of the honeybees salivary glands can be confusing. There are four different glands which secrete through the bees mouth, and their functions are not fully understood. Between them they are responsible for some digestive functions, plus chemical communication, defensive roles and feeding of larvae.
This video aims to explain these important structures.
I have posted a new video today. This lasts five minutes, and covers the main external and internal structures of the head. This may help to give an understanding of where the main structures are in relation to each other.
I have added some images of the mandibles. These show the groove where the secretions of the mandibular gland run down the mandibles.

This video is about six minutes long. It describes the structure of the compound eyes of the bee, and how light creates impulses. It also describes how the compound eyes see different colours
I have added images of tracheal sacs and branching trachea

I have added some images of larvae to the gallery, showing days five to seven

I have added a video describing the proboscis. This structure is kept folded away behind the mouth, ready to be brought out when the bee needs to suck or lap liquids
I have added a gallery page today. I have added a few images of drones. These are sections across the head, showing the brain and surrounding structures at different levels.
